2014 Workshop

The 2014 Educational Strategies Workshop is July 14 – July 18, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the Mirabeau Park Hotel, N. 1100 Sullivan Rd..  Each of the five days includes: three educational strategies sessions, a morning or afternoon “wellness activity”, and a lunch break.

2014 WESW Workshop Presentations

“Margo Long” Founder and Director, Center for Gifted Education & Teacher Enrichment, Whitworth University

“Dr. Syliva Oliver” Dr of genetics and Cell Biology from Washington State University and Director of STEM Education Outreach. “Overview of Project Lead the Way”

“Becky Clark” Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Washington and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Becky was a two sport D1 athlete at the U of W.

“Marlene Lock” 34 years teaching in East Valley Schools, She has taught Love & Logic to parents and teachers through out her career.

“Brooke Matson” Received her BA in English from Gonzaga University and her MA in Educational Leadership. She has presented workshops to K-12 teachers in Washington and Idaho.

“Scott Jones” CEBS Area Vice President is currently the lead consultant for many school districts in Washington and Oregon.

“Kelly Cochran” Fireman who does an excellent job of making First Aid training fun and interesting.

‘Tommy Boyer-Kendrick- Strength and Conditioning coach for Rockwood who will run fitness classes in the mornings of July 14-18.

Kim Brunelle & Jennifer Stalwick - Fitness instructors from Central Valley High School who will lead morning activities July 15-18.

2014 WESW Wellness Activities

Wellness activities  are limited to your activity level – whether you are pregnant or are a marathoner, you can tailor the activities to make them work for you.  Part of your wellness education will include a model of your weekly fitness plan.

Monday, July 14

  • 8 am – 9 am = Registration
  • 9 am – 10 am = Wellness activity sign up
  • 10 am – 11 am = Dr. Sylvia Oliver “Overview of Project Lead the Way”
  • 11:30 am – 12:30 pm = Lunch (on your own)
  • 12:30 pm – 3 pm = Dr. Sylvia Oliver “Hands on Approach”
  • 4 pm – 5pm = Wellness activity

Tuesday, July 15

  • 8 am – 9 am = Wellness activity
  • 10 am – 11:30 am =”Scott Jones “Veba”
  • 11:30 am – 12:30 pm = Lunch (on your own)
  • 12:30 pm - 3 pm =Brooke Matson” “Integrating Human Rights into the Classroom”
  • 4 pm – 5pm = Wellness activity

Wednesday, July 16

  • 8 am – 9 am = Wellness activity
  • 10 am – 11:30 am Becky Clark “Total Motion Release for Healthy Pain Free Living”
  • 11:30 am – 12:30 pm = Lunch (on your own)
  • 12:30 pm – 3 pm = Kelly Cochran “First Aid Training”
  • 4 pm – 5pm = Wellness activity

Thursday, July 17

  • 8 am – 9 am = Wellness activity
  • 10 am – 11:30 =”Marlene Lock” “The Four Basic Principles of Love & Logic”
  • 11:30 am – 12:30 pm = Lunch (on your own)
  • 12:30 pm – 3 pm = “Marlene Lock” “Setting Limits, Giving Choices, Teaching Responsibility, Teaching to Solve Problems”
  • 4 pm – 5 pm = Wellness activity

Friday, July 18

  • 8 am – 9 am = Wellness activity
  • 10 am – 11:30 = Margo Long
  • 11:30 am – 12:30 pm = Lunch (served at Mirabeau Park Hotel)
  • 12:30 pm – 2:15 pm = Margo Long
  • 2:15 pm - 3 pm = Rick Giampietri, closing remarks and program evaluation
  • 4 pm – 5pm = Wellness activity

Cost of the 2014 Summer Workshop

The 2014 Educational Strategies Workshop qualifies for Central Valley School District’s $350 class allowance for the school year. Registration can be paid via credit card, check, money order, or purchase order.

  • $450 if online registration is turned in by April 30.
  • $460 if online registration is turned in by May 30.
  • $470 if online registration is turned in by July 13.
  • $480 for in-person registration on July 14.

All refunds will include a $25 fee.

    Hi there, I was wondering if there was a difference in price if we didn’t want the credits and just wanted the clock hours? Thanks

Educational Credits


The Educational Strategies Workshop can be used as electives in your masters program, check with your advisor. The 5 day program is worth three semester credits, 4.5 quarter credits, or 45 clock hours.

 

The cost of the three credits from Whitworth University is included in the cost of registration ($60 per credit).

 

The 2014 Educational Strategies Workshop is EDG 525/G "2014 Educational Insights" 2Cr and EDG 526/G "2014 Wellness Revitalization" 1Cr.
